About Marco Dean

I hold a BSc and an MSc in Civil Engineering from the University of Udine (Italy) as well as an MSc and a PhD in Infrastructure Planning from the UCL Bartlett School of Planning (BSP).I am a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and have over 10 years of teaching experience at the university level. I have a quite broad teaching portfolio that includes both graduate and undergraduate courses in fields as varied as transport and infrastructure planning, urban project management, project appraisal and risk management, infrastructure investment and finance, energy and sustainable development, policy analysis and economics. Between 2012 and 2022, in particular, I was extensively involved in the organisational and delivering aspects of the MSc Programme in Infrastructure Planning, Appraisal and Development at the BSP.In April 2023, I joined the UCL Institute of Education as a Lecturer in Engineering and Education.My research interests lie primarily in the fields of transport and infrastructure planning and appraisal; urban governance and complexity in decision-making; participatory planning; and sustainability science.Since 2011, I have taken part in a number of research projects and consultancy studies, including European research projects funded by the European Union's Horizon 2020 Framework Programme for Research and Innovation, and consultancy assignments for the European Investment Bank, the UK's HM Treasury and the UK's National Infrastructure Planning Association.I am also a reviewer for several academic journals and I currently work as an Editor for the Frontiers in Sustainable Cities Journal.I am a highly motivated person who is able to work under pressure, manage multiple priorities and projects, and learn and adapt quickly to different work environments.I speak fluently English and Italian (my mother tongue).
