Background

About Marco Gianinetto

Passionate about Earth Observation and Geoinformation technologies, I introduced hundreds of graduate students to the ‘magic’ world of Remote Sensing and trained many young scientists, inspiring their successful careers. So far, I have coordinated many applied and frontier research projects and published about 100 papers, co-authored with more than 40 scientists belonging to academia, institutions and industry (source: Scopus, 9-JAN-2018). In the social media I was in the top 1% of researchers by views among more than 60 million academics on Academia.edu (source: Academia.edu, 9-JAN-2018) and yielded more than reads on ResearchGate (source: ResearchGate, 9-JAN-2018). Today I am Co-Editor-in-Chief for European Journal of Remote Sensing (Taylor & Francis, UK), Associate Editor for International Journal of Remote Sensing (Taylor & Francis, UK) since 2007 and Associate Editor for Journal of Applied Remote Sensing (SPIE, USA) since 2006. In past, I have been appointed Associate Editor for International Journal of Navigation and Observation (Hindawi, ET/USA) from 2007 to 2018 and Associate Editor for the Italian Journal of Remote Sensing (AIT, IT) from 2008 to 2011. With reference to technology transfer, I have served on the scientific committees of many international conferences. I have been an evaluator and advisor for national and international research projects, including the European Commission (EASME - Executive Agency for SMEs), Italian Ministry of Education University and Research (Italy), National Agency for the Evaluation of University and Research (Italy), Israel Science Foundation (Israel), National Research Council of Romania (Romania), Belgian Federal Science Policy Office (Belgium) and the French National Research Agency (France). Moreover, I have been senior advisor for the study “Space Market Uptake in Europe” carried out for the European Parliament ITRE Committee.
