About Marco Re

Mad about numbers since childhood, in love with physics since high school, I went all the way from kinematics up to one of the first experimental dissertation on the then futuristic and now very famous LHC accelerator at CERN, but then circumstances took me in other directions, precisely in Banking IT, first as a functional analyst first and then as a project manager, in activities such as e-commerce and electronic invoicing. When in 2008 IT company I worked with was incorporated by the banking parent company, my CEO remembered my familiarity with numbers and proposed me to join the newly formed Risk Management, and I enthusiastically accepted. I then took part in the pioneering phase of building the risk management structure of the bank, with the delivery of the first ICAAP report and the implementation of the Risk Appetite Framework. I started my experience in Risk Management with a quantitative profile, but I gradually added economic, banking and financial knowledges, which was not part of my original background, and, as the structure developed and grew, skills such as teamwork, functional coordination of workgroup activities, and problem-solving orientation. In 2014 a period of major changes begun, with acquisitions, mergers, and spin-offs: it was often not easy to manage the situations, but I believe that I was a key player in this complex phase, in which evolutions such as the implementation of models on interest rate, liquidity, stress scenarios were accompanied by various simulations about evolutions at corporate and group perimeter level. After the last merging in 2021 and the shift from a bank focused on delivery of services to a Banking Group in which credit granting is more central, I started to focus more specifically on credit risk, while maintaining my cross-functional role the various aspects of Risk Management of a financial institution.
