About Marco Sardo

Hello! I’m Marco, a young professional in the shipping industry, passionate about this dynamic world for two main reasons: the fast-paced nature that continuously reshapes our daily scenarios, and the key role we play in the global economy. After graduating from Nautical High School, I moved to London to improve my English. Halfway through my stay, I found an internship in Genoa, which led me back to my hometown to work as a trainee in a shipping brokerage office, focusing on bulk ship chartering for dry commodities like grain and coal. This experience sparked my interest in exploring other sectors of the industry. To deepen my understanding, I enrolled in a 2-year professional course at the Accademia Italiana della Marina Mercantile, specializing in Transport and Logistics Management. Through internships during this course, I gained firsthand experience in a shipping agency, learning about the phases of port calls and the documentation process behind them. The agency’s focus on tankers and chemical vessels expanded my knowledge of cargoes such as edible liquids, petroleum, and chemical derivatives. After completing the Academy, I joined ONE on a 2-year apprenticeship program, rotating between departments and countries to gain a comprehensive understanding of the interconnected operations within a container shipping company. Now, nearly six years later, I’m still with ONE, working as a Special Cargo Analyst in the yield management department.
