About Marcus Atkinson

Experienced auctioneer, wine educator and WSET Diploma graduate with a demonstrated history of growing businesses rapidly in the wine and spirits industry. Currently employed as Head of Fine Wines & Whiskies at Webb’s, New Zealand’s premier auction house, where we have achieved a seven-fold increase in revenue & net profit for the department from 2018-2025. Prior to my current role, I founded the New Zealand division of United Cellars in Australia in 2008. A direct-to-consumer retailer, we established the NZ office in 2011 where as Director and Country Manager we quadrupled our revenue in five years whilst increasing our gross profit sixfold. My early career in the UK included stints as a sommelier at Le Pont de la Tour in 2003, managing fine wine retail shops for Oddbins 1997-2001, Bottoms Up 2001-2002, Threshers 2002-2003, & Sainsburys 2003-2005. Experience of working the vintage in Bordeaux, the year I graduated from University of Nottingham with a BSc w/Hons in Applied Biology.
