Background
About Marcus Gonzalez
During my years as an educator in high-stake positions, I have had many experiences that have molded me into a skilled, pro-active, solutions oriented, and highly effective teacher who would be a key asset to any organization driven by student achievement. My strengths as an educator are evident in the way data drives my instruction, resulting in thoughtfully and strategically differentiated lessons that allow my students to constructively struggle. Vygotsky's Zone of Proximal Development tells us that the most effective way to instruct a student is to teach them just beyond their current ability, and by adhering to this standard my students consistently demonstrate ELD level growth on WiDA MODEL and ACCESS assessments. I am currently on track to meeting the expectations of a master teacher, which is the highest level attainable in Mastery's teacher advancement system. As the mentor lead at Mastery Molina Upper, I helped over 10 new teachers attain their NJ teaching certificates. I have led professional development sessions on sheltered-English strategies (I received my sheltered English endorsement Dec. 2017), scaffolds and supports for English learners within math and science classes, classroom engagement techniques, Imagine Learning implementation, and literacy development in a virtual setting. I have a lot of experience case managing EL students. Our school has consistently led the way in the Mastery Schools of Camden network when it comes to NJ state compliance. I have no problem staying organized, prioritizing, and meeting every deadline. I am open to a position as an ESL teacher, Instructional designer, PD lead, or in curriculum development.
