Background

About Marcus King

I am currently based on the beautiful Takapourewa as island ranger DOC; Ngati Koata's amazing motu in Marlborough. As a trustee for Doubtless Conservation I am focusing on control in the Doubtful and Nina valley systems to restore this to a point where roroa and whio especially will return to good levels again. I set up and run a volunteer trapping in Mt Vernon Park, Christchurch and have established trap lines in the wider Banks Peninsula. I develop technology from science for NZ business, especially computer technologies for people with disabilities - special needs. As principal scientist with the Te Tītoki Mataora MedTech Research Translator I link with business, academia, clinicians and patients as well as user groups like the NZ Stroke Foundation, the MS and PD Society and the Autism Association. I have developed the technology that underlies a series of digital health gaming companies in NZ: AbleX Healthcare Ltd. world leading gamified stroke rehabilitation system Exsurgo Rehabilitation Ltd. robotic stroke rehabilitation Mtech Games Ltd. VR wheelchair trainer Inclusys Ltd. gamified teaching of conversation skills to children with autism My leadership in digital rehab has included being one of the first in the world to introduce Nintendo Wii into a rehab hospital in 2006; with Stickmen Studios releasing Kung Fu Funk on Nintendo’s game store: using human movement science to enable people with disabilities to play equally with able-bodied people and including principles of rehabilitation. This introduced Walt Disney Company to their capabilities of family friendly gaming and initiated growth to a wide range of international clients, growing Cerebral Fix (sister company) to 140 on the TIN100. My personal interests include: Alpine tramping: I developed a system of light weight equipment for NZ environment Dog sports: I have 4 samoyed dogs who enjoy sled racing, agility Cycling: keen recreational and commuter cyclist Photography Furniture making
