A Non-Executive SME expert with substantial experience supporting executive teams to develop and grow their businesses and also spanning major turnaround projects. Comfortable working with private equity investors, private shareholders and family owners to ensure the highest levels of governance, regulatory adherence, and financial sustainability are achieved. Strong personal focus on getting the leadership team right, offering support and challenge to create and develop strong management teams with a focus on growth and profitability. A financier, strategist and NED, I recognise the inherent need for businesses to have independent, pragmatic and experienced advice to hand. I’ve seen businesses fall into the trap of throwing resources at a problem without a defined outcome and treating the symptoms of a problem as if they were treating the cause. These are the experiences that have afforded me success in supporting boards who are in, or are preparing for, substantial change. I’ve a vast experience of dealing with private and family businesses, as well as private equity and business turnaround programmes. Since 2005, amongst other roles, I have: supported a manufacturing business through a management buy-out and subsequent restructure; arranged the raising of £34m in rescue funds for a 230 year old carpet manufacturing (B2B) business, and supported the market exit of a specialist software company following general management re-focus.
