About Marcus Peterson

I am a member of Oracle's Trademark, Marketing & Copyright Legal team. I help protect and grow some of the best known business and enterprise software and service brands in the world. I also advise business and marketing clients on publicity and marketing materials. I am actively involved in AI/ML Legal issues within Oracle. Prior to joining Oracle, I worked in law firms where I offered a full-range trademark and copyright practice to entities ranging from startups to Fortune 100 companies, in industries including social media, entertainment, toys and games, clothing, food and beverage, fintech, edtech, and consumer products. My counseling and prosecution practice consistently balanced client business needs against legal risk when guiding stakeholders through brand adoption and protection decisions. My litigation practice included matters involving trademark infringement, dilution, false advertising, employment and labor, contract disputes, consumer protection, product liability, and Computer Fraud and Abuse Act. I have had success at all phases of litigation, from the pleadings stage, through discovery and dispositive motions and into trial. I currently serve as the Chair of the Copyright Interest Group of the IP Section of the California Lawyers Association. We meet the first Wednesday of every month to discuss current events and hot topics in the world of copyright. Please feel free to contact me for more information. I successfully represented asylum applicants before the Immigration Court and Board of Immigration Appeal, worked with those who assisted our military in Afghanistan on adjustment of status applications, represented a Social Security claimant before the Office of Adjudicative Review, and served other clients in trademark, mortgage fraud litigation, and criminal matters.
