Background
About Marcus Ryan
Marcus Ryan currently serves as Warden for Oxford County, a partnership-oriented, two-tier municipal government serving residents across eight area municipalities, and the Mayor of Township of Zorra for the 2022-2026 terms. Ryan was first elected as a Township of Zorra Councillor for the 2014-2018 term and was subsequently elected as Mayor of Township of Zorra for the 2018-2022 term, during which he also served as an Oxford County Councillor. As Mayor of Zorra, Ryan has served on all Township Committees. He also served on the Board of the Upper Thames River Conservation Authority, and as the Chair of the Oxford County Library Board. He is a Past Vice Chair and current Executive Member of the Community Schools Alliance, and served on the Executive of the Top Aggregate Producing Municipalities of Ontario. As Oxford County Warden, Ryan serves on all Oxford committees and on the Board of Southwestern Public Health, and represents Oxford at the Western Ontario Warden’s Caucus. Ryan is motivated by emotion to find evidence and make policy that delivers for his community. His interest in politics was motivated by his advocacy and leadership of community efforts to save A.J. Baker Public School from closure. He remains inspired to further develop and serve his community, with particular focus on supports for vulnerable populations, “100% Housed,” equity and inclusion, environmental sustainability, Indigenous relations, and advocacy for municipal services. Marcus Ryan was a Zorra Councillor for the 2014-18 term, and Mayor and Oxford County Councillor for the 2018-2022 terms. He is now Zorra Mayor and Oxford County Warden for the 2022-26 terms. In that time he has also served on all Zorra Committees, on the Board of the Upper Thames River Conservation Authority, as the Chair of the Oxford County Library Board, and on the executive of the Top Aggregate Producing Municipalities of Ontario.
