About Marcus Sanger

SFHEA | MSc | PgCLT (HE)| BA (Hons). With over 20 years of experience in higher education, I specialise in co-designing and implementing student-centred, real-world, work-ready teaching and assessment strategies that enrich the student experience. Dedicated to collaborating on institutional strategic initiatives that promote engaging, creative, and effective student-centred learning environments. A proven track record in curriculum design and fostering academic excellence through evidence-informed teaching. Working closely with colleagues and students, I have contributed to significant improvements in student engagement and satisfaction. Through innovative and collaborative curriculum design, inclusive andragogical approaches, and a strong focus on student support and feedback, we achieved an NSS overall satisfaction score of 92%. As Deputy Course Leader for the MChiro programme and an early career researcher, I am actively engaged in both academic leadership and applied research. I am currently undertaking a PhD by publication entitled Exploring the Impact of Gamification on Student Motivation and Retention in Higher Education Virtual Learning Environments. My academic interests focus on student engagement, digital innovation in education, community health promotion and exercise science. I am also supporting several research projects, including: • Khan, H, Sanger, M, & Heritage, D.(Forthcoming 2025). Community Health Promotion: Public and Patient Involvement and Engagement Workshops. Journal of Applied Social Psychology. • A Jump Start-funded project: The Smoking Cessation App for Pregnant Females. • A Wessex Health Partnership-funded project: Enhancing Health Literacy in Schools: Co-Developing Resources and Establishing a Regional Health Champion Network. I am a Senior Fellow of Advance HE (HEA), a standing member of the REF outputs review team at HSU, and serve as an external examiner and mentor at the University of Plymouth. I also act as an assessor and internal verifier for Bournemouth University’s Academy of Performance Coaching. In addition, I work with PD:Approval as a external verifier, technical adviser and submission support manager, supporting the Sports Therapy Association (STA) in the UK and the Register of Exercise Professionals (REPs) in India, Pakistan, the UAE, and Ireland.
