About Marcus Staton

Hello everyone! My name is Marcus, and I am one of many Alumni of Green City Force. As an Alumni of Green City Force, an accredited Americorps program that is versed in Food Justice, Urban Agriculture, and Sustainability, I have successfully completed 6 months of National Service with Americorps through Green City Force as an Urban Farm Corps Member. During my term of service in the Urban Farm Corps, I helped construct a farm at Forest Houses in The Bronx, which consisted of spreading woodchips, laying tarps, and building raised beds. I also turned roughly 6 tons of compost weekly with the NYC Compost Project hosted by Brooklyn Botanical Garden at Red Hook Community Farm, and maintained 4 urban farms by direct seeding, Integrated Pest Management, cleaning trash and winterizing. I operated weekly farm stands to give harvested produce to NYCHA residents and collected food scraps, and studied agricultural vocabulary and practices during weekly professional development sessions. I have also been privileged to work as Brand Ambassador and Delivery Associate at Square Roots. Square Roots brings the idea of Farm to Table to greater heights - with cutting edge technology, entrepreneurship, and the idea of food justice.
