Background
About Marcus Williamson
With diverse experiences in both the public and private sectors, Marcus Williamson returned to the Columbus Metropolitan Housing Authority in 2020 to offer his rich expertise in public housing development and management to the role of VP of Asset Management. Marcus’ 20+ years of experience leading teams, developing strategies, managing operations, and expanding asset portfolios brings great value to the agency’s mission of making innovative, affordable housing more accessible throughout Central Ohio. Marcus’ career with CMHA began in 2002 as the Admissions & Occupancy Manager where he oversaw a 10-person team in managing the agency’s public housing waiting list, eligibility, and occupancy department. During his 12 years in that role, he improved customer response times and service times, monthly production rates, and customer satisfaction survey results. Before leaving CMHA, Marcus built a foundation by establishing the Asset Management Standards and Best Practices Operating Procedures Manual, a contribution that continues to support the agency’s mission, vision, and goals, even today. In 2014, Marcus moved to Virginia Beach, expanding affordable housing in the area as the Housing Programs Administrator for the City of Virginia Beach. Providing operational oversight to an $18M-$22M housing budget, Marcus was instrumental in the agency’s provision of affordable housing to 2,300 families and the city’s mission to eliminate homelessness throughout the area. During his five years in Virginia Beach, he consistently earned Section 8 Management Assessment Program’s High Performer status for the agency. In 2019, Marcus returned to Ohio, transitioning to the role of Deputy Director for the Cuyahoga Metropolitan Housing Authority’s Housing Choice Voucher Program (HCVP). Delivering exceptional results despite a much larger agency scope and size, Marcus’ operational oversight was critical to the effective administration of the $100M+ HCV program budget. While with the Cuyahoga Metropolitan Housing Authority, Marcus contributed to the expansion of the area’s affordable housing, the significant reduction in new contract processing times, and an overall improvement in housing program utilization rates. Remaining focused on maximizing the agency’s value to the community, Marcus continues to deliver the strategic insight that optimizes services, resources, and support to residents; maintains local, state, federal, and HUD compliance; and expands the agency’s robust offerings to neighborhoods throughout Central Ohio.
