About Mareike Kroll

I am a specialist in environmental health and sustainable development with over 15 years of international experience across the UN system, academia, government, and NGOs. Grounded in integrated systems thinking, my technical expertise spans: • Health systems strengthening: including health information systems, infection prevention and control (IPC), antimicrobial resistance (AMR), and occupational health. • Environmental sustainability: with a focus on climate change, chemicals, and plastics. • Urban resilience: addressing informal sectors, governance, and urban services. • Gender equity: integrating inclusive approaches across all areas of work. In my current role at WHO Europe, I support countries in transitioning toward low-carbon, climate-resilient, and sustainable health systems. I also lead evidence reviews on mitigating the mental health impacts of climate change and fostering community resilience. I bring a robust foundation in research, policy analysis, project management, capacity building, and Monitoring, Evaluation & Learning (MEL). My skill set includes mixed-methods approaches, knowledge translation, and strategic communication - bridging the gap between science, policy, and practice. I am deeply passionate about leveraging interdisciplinary approaches to address global environmental threats, promote human health and advance equity.
