About Margaret Fields

I have worked as an Associate Dean in the largest college at the University of Florida, the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. I enjoy problem-solving complex issues, working with teams, and feeling the sense of accomplishment at the end of each day knowing that I have done something, no matter how small, to make a difference in someone's life. I specialize in Accreditation through my work to prepare our college for reaffirmation with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges. The process requires attention all year with a special emphasis at the 5-year and 10-year review. I work with approximately sixty Undergraduate, Graduate, and Certificate Coordinators in my college to plan and prepare annual reports and I complete the Institutional Effectiveness plan for the college. Building a strong network of colleagues has supported my efforts to improve the physical infrastructure of my college and the University as a whole. My responsibility encompasses over thirty buildings on campus, many of which are over forty years old. When new faculty are hired research labs and office spaces need to be renovated. I strategically work with Facilities Services when I have a major construction projects to combine efforts to make a more powerful impact with the renovations. Facilities Services will renovate the public areas of the buildings where I am doing major renovation. The results are always stunning. My students, Interdisciplinary Studies majors, are unique, talented and motivated. Together with 2 faculty sponsors we create a major that combines 2 or more disciplines, for example, Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. All of my students graduate with honors. My administrative duties include, but are not limited to the management of the college's communications team, the IT team, and the Shared Services Center which processes all fiscal and HR transactions for about twenty units. I serve as the ADA Associate Dean and administer the Dean's Scholarships. We award about 100 annually.
