About Margaret McCormick

After 34 incredible years working for British Columbia's tourism authority in all its iterations I've taken advantage of early retirement and over the past eight years have been enjoying the flexibility of consulting on projects that leverage my experience. Being a part of Destination BC (Tourism BC/BC Government) has provided me a tremendous opportunity to develop skills and expertise in a wide range of disciplines from customer service and visitor servicing to business transformation and change management. I've expanded that experience to deliver a variety of strategic plans, engaged in research projects and sheparded human resource teams through change. My current role is one that has allowed me to both contribute through experience and grow through learning. I'm the Project Manager for Destination BC and the BC Tourism Football Club FIFA initiatives. G O A L! Engaging in our chosen community in the Shuswap has brought additional fulfillment. Working with municipal and regional governments has expanded my knowledge and given me additional insights on systems, processes and politics. As the Alternate Director for our Area, I've experienced first hand how government layers work and sometimes don't work. The creation of Taste of the Shuswap over the past four years has been a passion project and a wonderful way to learn new skills, meet new people and celebrate the importance of community. Co-owning Taste of the Shuswap has allowed me to work closely with local food and beverage businesses, helping to tell their stories and celebrate the rich culinary heritage of our region. This experience has reinforced my commitment to fostering connections between culinary experiences and tourism - the "perfect pairing" between my experience and passion. Engaging in community as a board member and now Vice President of our local community association has deepened my connections and leveraged my experience to improve the quality of life for our residents.
