About Margaret Patrick

Margaret is an Analytical Inorganic chemist and Adjunct Professor with experience in nanomaterials, semiconductors, water splitting, electron microscopy, electrochemistry, inorganic synthesis, characterization, data analysis and more. She also has extensive experience with technical writing and editing, and is extremely comfortable with public speaking. Her passions are green chemistry and teaching; she hopes to inspire the next generation in science through teaching introductory chemistry while contributing to the design of a cleaner society. Margaret received her Bachelor's in Science from University of Washington in March 2018, where her major was Chemistry and minor Mathematical Physics. She worked as a researcher with Dr. Daniel Gamelin for 2 years on optimization of perovskite nanocrystals and their subsequent anion/cation exchange reactions. Margaret synthesized numerous nanoparticles, which the group targeted for use as colloidal hydrogen evolution catalysts via coupling to ZnO nanocrystal photoabsorbers. Through her work, she has expertise in nanoparticle synthesis, characterization, and semiconductor band theory. Following her Bachelor's, Margaret began her Master's in Science in August 2018 under Dr. Jing Gu, with a major in Chemistry and focus in Inorganic Nanomaterials. She will graduate in May 2021. Her research centers on optimization of silicon nanomaterials for photoelectrochemical water splitting. She specializes in electron microscopy, electrochemistry, air-free synthesis, spectroscopy, data analysis, and photochemistry.
