Background
About Margi Hoffmann
Margi Hoffmann is the Oregon State Director for the United States Department of Agriculture. At Rural Development she works closely with rural communities, farmers and ranchers throughout Oregon to invest in locally driven solutions that will increase resiliency today and for generations to come. Prior to joining Rural Development, she worked with the Farmers Conservation Alliance (FCA) collaborating with many irrigation and environmental stakeholders. At FCA, she helped design and build a program that has leveraged over $1B in implementation funds for Irrigation Modernization projects. Prior to joining FCA, Hoffmann served as Energy Policy Advisor to Governors John Kitzhaber and Kate Brown. As such, she collaborated across a broad range of stakeholders, including public and private utilities, environmental, labor and consumer protection organizations, industrial customers, and business and trade associations to craft and implement the latest ten year energy plan for Oregon. On behalf of Oregon, she helped negotiate the West Coast Climate Energy Action Plan, which incorporates the jurisdictions of British Columbia, Washington State, Oregon and California. Hoffmann served as a panelist on subnational jurisdictions’ role in combating climate change at the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change COP 20 in Lima, Peru in December of 2014. She coordinated the State’s response to the Obama Administration’s Clean Power Plan to ensure that federal policy would not disrupt the state’s existing carbon reduction programs and grid reliability, or significantly increase the cost of energy for rate-payers. Hoffmann has a B.A. in English Literature from Lewis and Clark College and is a graduate of Harvard Law School’s Program on Negotiation. In her free time, she enjoys backcountry skiing, running rivers and badly playing bluegrass mandolin. Her husband, Joshua Klaus, teaches Spanish and environmental science at Cascades Academy. They live in Bend, Oregon.
