About Margo Shulman

As a global business executive with a diversified professional background spanning Big 4, Big Law, Tax Court, and academia, I have an extensive track record of successfully guiding business leaders on complex tax and strategy issues and transactions. My industry experience includes Consumer Products, Technology, Professional Services, Chemical / Pharmaceutical, Automotive, and others. Over the years, I have served as a legal advisor, tax consultant, and/or a chief of staff for some of the largest global business units and clients in many industries, including Boeing, Dow Chemical, General Motors, Bristoll-Myers Squibb, Colgate Palmolive, Hess and Anheuser-Busch Inbev. In addition to other skills, I have developed a knack for "connecting the dots" in a variety of contexts, be it designing and implementing effective tax planning strategies to reach business objectives or managing diverse global cross-business-unit teams, which has proven invaluable numerous times. My career highlights include - Designing/implementing over 30 internal restructuring transactions and over 10 third-party M&A deals- Serving as a key member of the 70+ person team that designed and implemented four (4) consecutive Legal Entity Rationalization projects that resulted in over $20 million in annual cost savings for a client- Identifying and obtaining additional material cost-savings on top of the expected tax benefit for a client in the course of a transaction implementation- Having been selected as a member of the leadership team of 30 from over executives to organize and lead Tax Innovation Council that has developed into a firm-wide organization pioneering and sponsoring novel, out-of-the-box solutions for internal and external challenges. Finally, I always welcome an opportunity to apply and expand my skills in other professional contexts - some of the highlights include serving on the Board of Directors of Master Voices and the Board of Trustees of the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, participating in a variety of mentorship programs (e.g, Diversity Mentorship Program, Professional Women's Network, Inner City School Mentorship Project) and doing pro bono legal work (e.g, Pro Choice Guardian Ad Litem, corporate advisor for a women's shelter).
