Background
About Margot Storch
When people hear that you are an art teacher, the typical response is "That's fun!" or "That's cool!"- and it is, but there is so much more to it than that. I have been teaching Secondary Art in the public school setting for 10 years, 5 of which I taught middle school aged students in grades 6-8 before transitioning to high school Art Education. Art does spark joy, but it also has profound influence on adolescent development and it influences the way we all view the world and our everyday activities. As an Art Educator I work to Inspire the young creatives who enter my space, but also to guide them on their creative journey. I work to provide them with new perspectives to view their world, to realize their artistic potential through various skill and art process development, and to see everyday applicable value to the skills they learn in my classroom and how those skills translate to other academic and professional atmospheres. As a curious, multimedia artist myself, I am skilled in a number of different processes and am always seeking to expand my skillset and toolbox of art knowledge. I currently teach Photography; touching on both digital and film technique, but emphasizing the black and white film process, Ceramics, Sculpture, and Art II; which acts as an interdisciplinary studio course where students are exposed to a variety of different art making processes and technique such as, Drawing, Printmaking, Painting, Sculpture, and Design. Additionally, I have also taught Graphic Design, exploring Visual Identity, Typography, and Logo & Brand Design with my students. My variety of expertise allows me to connect with a large variety of students and to provide them with unique skillsets that they can carry down their different paths. Every year, I am met with students who thank me for the ways I have broadened their perspective of what the various art forms I teach can entail, and how it has made them find something in themselves they didn't know existed or that has altered their view of who they are or their life path. Not only do I view myself as an Art Educator, but also an Art Advocate. I fight everyday to provide the best opportunities for learning to my students and to showcase their work within our school community to allow their peers to connect to the incredible creations they produce. Art is a form of storytelling and I pride myself on providing my students with the space to explore how that relates to their creative process - exploring their experience, background, dreams, world views, etc. Art allows us to be our truest selves.
