About Maria Dima

I am a recent graduate from Loyola University of Chicago, earning a bachelor’s degree in cognitive and behavioral neuroscience with a minor in psychology. My past research assistant position at Dr. Ye's electrophysiology lab at Loyola University of Chicago, taught me the importance of patience in a research setting. I developed skills such as scientific writing, collection and interpretation of data, writing of scientific papers, and reviewing of past literature. My current research tech position at Dr. Popko’s lab at Northwestern university has expanded my understanding of the ISR pathway and it’s involvement in multiple sclerosis, and has helped me develop valuable lab skills and techniques, such as OPC isolation, mouse handling and procedures, IHC, quantification methods through softwares like Fiji/imageJ and HALO. I’m excited about systems neuroscience and topics such as place cells, memory consolidation, and sleep. In the near future, I intend to pursue a PhD with the hope of investigating memory and learning neural circuits. Having grown up in Greece, I am fully bilingual in Greek and English.
