About Maria Engberg

I am an Associate Professor (docent) at the Department of Computer Science and Media Technology, Malmö University. I am part of the Digital Work Futures Lab (funded by the Swedish Research Council): 2024-2029. 2019-2024 I served also as the Program director of the research program Data Society. 2011 to 2024 I was an Affiliate Researcher at the Augmented Environments Lab at Georgia Tech (US). 2019-2022 I served as member of the Europeana Network Association's Members Council I was previously Senior Lecturer in Digital Culture in the Department of Technology and Aesthetics at Blekinge Institute of Technology in Sweden, and a guest professor at University of Bayreuth (DE) and Georgia Tech (US). My teaching and research have centered around digital media in various ways, and in particular emerging media technologies. I am interested in how processes of digitalisation impact media and cultural practices. I have also been part of the design of expressive and informal learning AR experiences particularly for the cultural heritage sector, in collaboration with the Augmented Environments Lab at Georgia Tech (US). Recent research projects that I have been part of: City Fables, 2013-2106, artistic research grant from the Swedish National Research council (VR) on urban locative media and storytelling. Living Archives, my participation 2014-2017. Cultural heritage and postcoloniality, storytelling and AR/MR. ELMCIP: Electronic Literature as a Model of Creativity and Innovation in Practice (ELMCIP), 2010-2013. Principal Investigator in Sweden. Funded by Humanities in the European Research Area (HERA) JRP for Creativity and Innovation.
