About Maria Howeth

I am proud to be a Certified Grants Management Specialist and a subject matter expert in grant management with an emphasis in tribal government funding. I have always said no one raises their hand in kindergarten and says “I want to be a grant manager!”, but we do raise our hands and say we want to help people (policeman, fireman, teacher, etc.), and then we accidentally become grant managers. We all want to serve people. By being a grants manager, we are stewards of public funding to ensure it serves the public. It becomes a passion. I am excited (passionate) to be involved in the National Grants Management Association where I have now served three terms on the board of directors. I enjoy talking to fellow #grantnerds across the United States and never turn down an opportunity to have spirited discussions and mentor new grant folk. Prior to becoming a #grantnerd, I worked 20+ years in family retail furniture businesses, which helped me gain appreciation and knowledge of community needs through working with local and tribal governments, and various community organizations.
