About Maria Lugo

I am currently an undergraduate business administration major at East Carolina University who is learning the fundamentals of business through its disciplines: management, marketing, finance, and accounting. In my most recent experience outside the classroom setting I learned a lot by watching the bankers and learning from the processes from day to day. Being a bank staff, I benefited a lot from it because this gave me an experience that could never be compared to a class environment. In this position, I have been engaged in providing service to a variety of customers and this includes working at the storefront, processing transactions and offering excellent customer service. One of the biggest benefits of being a teller at KeyBank is that I was able to learn from seasoned bankers. This has given me an inside look at various banking aspects like financial products and services, risk management, regulatory compliance, and customer relationship. As a teller, I became to understand that the effectiveness of handling financial transactions appropriately depends on keen observation, perfect accuracy, and the presence of professionalism. One of the key skills that I have honed is communication and interpersonal skills, because these are essential, as I often dealt with customers, listening to their banking inquiries and addressing their needs. Moreover I now have more knowledge about the way banks work not only knowing which departments of the banks have what functions but also that no bank can risk insecurity of the customers.
