About Maria Primo
During my Master and PhD education my work focused on the characterisation of miRNAs in skin inflammation and of miRNA responses during regulation of the innate immune response to viral infection in human macrophages. In this Postdoctoral phase of my career, I aim to gain deeper understanding of the fundamental gene regulatory processes and the downstream signalling pathways regulating viral infection in human macrophages. Because diversity and plasticity are outstanding hallmarks of macrophages, I am exploring single cell RNA sequencing techniques to monitor cellular heterogeneity and population dynamics during macrophage stimulation. By these means I am expanding my existing laboratory skills and developing new computational skills to analyse high throughput sequencing data.
