About Maria Rehder

Currently: Project Officer - Education Sector - UNESCO Brazil Winner of Mariazinha Fusari Prize - 2022 Edition - Category: Educommunication Professional, for more than 20 years I have been a researcher at the Nucleus of Communication and Education at University of São Paulo (NCE ECA USP), focusing in digital learning, understanding meaningful participation and transformative education as a human right from educommunication perspective. For the last 5 years, I worked as Consultant at UNESCO Brazil in the following areas: Right to education with a special focus in digital learning for teachers and students, including Gender-transformative education, Media and Information Literacy/Educommunication/OER thematics. I have been also trained as facilitator of UNESCO Story Circles Methodology and OER Leader.#SDGs I have been also working with the conception of Media and Information Literacy and Education for Sustainable Develomoment methodologies for basic education teachers and students, MOOC course contents and methodologies supporting UNESCO Brasil with children´s and youth participation in 2030 Agenda. Other work positions occupied:(The UN): Communication/Advocacy officer of the UN Resident Coordinator Office in Guinea-Bissau; UNDP Brazil Consultant - trainings right to heath/HIV held in Botswana and Kenya.(Others): Project Coordinator at the Brazilian Campaign for the Right to Education; Teachers Trainner at Secretaria Municipal de São Paulo (Núcleo de Educomunicação - Imprensa Jovem); Journalist Specialized in Education Estadão/Jornal da Tarde; Educommunication specialist and youth trainner at Viração Educomunicação. Regarding academics, I hold a Master Degree on Human Righs (University of Padua/Italy - UNESCO Chair Human Rights, Democracy and Peace) and also a specialization Tittle in Communication/Culture/Education Mannagement at ECA-USP/SP. For 5 years (2016-2021) I was vice-president of ABPEducom (Brazilian Association of Educommunication Professionals and Researchers) With bachelor in journalism, in 2008 I was winner of Laura Russo Journalism Award for the articles writen at Estadão/Jornal da Tarde in defense of the libraries at public schools and also winner of Journalism Prize by the Autism Pride Movement for the best article writen in 2007. One of the authors of the pioneer Media and Information Literacy initiative Educom.JT (with weekly material published on Educommunication/MIL for teachers in Jornal da Tarde newspaper), awarded by UCIP International Award for defending the fundamental communication rights of all.
