About Mariah Clark

My name is Mariah Clark and I am a driven graduate student in the History, Anthropology, and Philosophy department at the University of North Georgia. I focus mainly on Middle Eastern/Eastern Mediterranean Conflict, but I have spent most of my professional career as a Southeastern USA and local historian for the state of Georgia. I am an advocate, activist, and professional historian by trade as well as hobby. Yes, I am willing to debate history or politics with your friend that is obsessed with the History channel. Aha, of course I am joking! I am involved with various organizations- the Georgia Democratic Party for one, local government entities within the state of Georgia, and other non-profit organizations that can be found nationwide and globally. I am honored to have been head of curation and collections for my local community museum and its historic sites, I have also been the head registrar for a local medical museum as well. These opportunities at this current time within my academic career, have helped me to have a greater understanding of my field and ultimately my communities here in Georgia. Of course, an appreciation to my fellow historians looking for their specialty as well! I have since transitioned from public history to a full-time public library worker, I should mention, where I am a reference and research specialist. A very interesting choice, I assume you’re asking yourself. I am trying to learn as much as I can about how the field of History has evolved within different industries and trades across space and time, as it is relevant to my future academic endeavors. I want more than anything to become a pseudo-renaissance woman or rather, one who has focused their lives to the concept of the Greek term "polymathēs". The end goal? Facilitating positive change and learning for our communities to facilitate broader knowledge that can be passed down to our neighbors. My life and the experiences that have come from it have garnered a great drive to engage with others at an empathetic level to meet them where they are at. The root of knowledge can be found when empathy enters the conversation before you do. Knowledge is the key to providing agency and from agency comes greater freedom for everyone. As a disabled person myself, I find that to be incredibly important. Philosophy aside, I love what I do and I would love to meet you. Send an email my way anytime!
