About Mariah Douglas

I am a developing clinician currently completing my Master of social work at the University of Toronto who has worked within the mental health sector working with a diverse populations across multiple organizations and sectors. I have experience in both child and youth care and psychiatric assistance within my career thus far. Amongst my education, I have been a Viola Desmond Nominee for the Black Excellence Achievement Award. I have experience working with children and adolescents in foster care and residential care (secured/non-secured). I have worked as a CYC Practitioner demonstrating knowledge of assessment, crisis management along with goal settings. My practice has been focused on the clinical understanding of trauma-informed care. These programs have equipped me with excellent counselling and programming skills. Through my education and experience, I have gained a comprehensive understanding and knowledge of resources available to vulnerable individuals. In my current role as a Psychiatric Assistant in the Emergency Department at the Center for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH), I provide support to youth and adults with mental health and addiction challenges. Working from a client-centered perspective; I contribute to/participate in assessments and provide direct care and family support. Familiarity with clinical care and issues specific to mental health and/or addictions are some of my current qualifications. My role has granted me the ability to work with individuals from diverse ethno-racial and cultural backgrounds. I have been recognized for my ability to create therapeutic relationships with individuals as well as their families and demonstrate various strategies for working with high-risk individuals. I am passionate about cultural responsive approaches and evidence-based interventions to address and enable approachable and appropriate health systems for all populations, cultures and ethnicities.
