Background

About Mariah Kemp

My scholarly research broadly explores digital and cultural rhetorics. Specifically, I am interested in the liminal spaces and intersections of marginalization, ethos, and identity. Over eight years of teaching introductory writing, professional communication, public speaking, and rhetorical analysis, my students often comment that I am an enthusiastic and flexible. I strive to provide a comfortable and accessible learning environment. My primary research project examines how queer folks co-construct identity and community within online Dungeons & Dragons games. I am further interested in exploring how rhetoric and communication graduate programs support graduate students, the rhetoric of cookbooks, and rural sign creation (think of the hand-painted signs saying "Cucumbers: 4 for $1" you see driving rural roads).
