About Mariam Mohammad
Mariam Mohammad is a 25-year-old Palestinian in Lebanon. She's the Princess Diana Award recipient- the highest accolade a young person can achieve for social change or humanitarian efforts- for mentoring over 3,200 youth globally, a public health researcher, founder of two initiatives in Lebanon, and international motivational speaker and mentor. In 2019, she founded “Alam w Mahay”, an initiative to erase all forms of illiteracy among street children in Lebanon and introduce volunteerism among youth. Moreover, she's also the co-founder of Taamkeen, which aims to enhance the quality of educational services and develop soft skills for Palestinian refugees in Lebanon. Internationally she served as a leadership mentor for MENA youth at Georgetown University to guide and mentor them to create impactful projects in their communities. Mariam has won two awards: the global winner of Sheikh Hasina Youth Volunteer Leadership Award and the Middle East winner of Sheikh Hasina Youth Volunteer Leadership Award at Dhaka OIC Youth Capital 2020. On July 1st 2022, Mariam received the Diana award for mentoring 3,200 youth worldwide on how to start their own projects to solve pressing social issues in their communities through her initiative Mentoring Tomorrow’s Change (M.T.C). Until this day, Mariam have reached over 4,500 youth and this number keeps on growing. Currently, Mariam is a fellow with the regional office of the World Health Organization for the Eastern Mediterranean Region. Academically, Mariam has received the prestigious scholarship of Research and Training on tropical diseases from the World Health Organization (WHO) to pursue her Masters in Public Health at the American University of Beirut. Last but not least, Mariam got selected by Harvard University to participate in Harvard Crossroads Emerging Leaders Program (1.3 % acceptance rate) and was among the top 5% in her cohort. Also, she got selected by the US embassy in Lebanon to attend MEPI Students Leaders Program at Portland State University to do leadership and civic engagement studies over the summer. In her community, she was assigned to many leadership roles such as serving as an advisory board member at YLP-UNDP and being the vice president of the Lebanese Red Cross Youth Sector at her university. Finally, she was featured in Wilson Center at Washington DC as one of the most impactful youths in the MENA region by sharing her story entitled.” Mariam’s Journey: Why I am Helping People Rise. ”
