About Mariam Sulyman

I am a dedicated professional with a strong background in mental health research, healthcare advocacy, and program coordination, committed to advancing equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility (EDIA) within healthcare systems. With a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and extensive experience in mental health, addictions services, and healthcare policy, I work to develop and implement strategies that improve access, representation, and patient outcomes. Currently, I serve as the Program Coordinator for PLANS (Promoting Leadership in Health for African Nova Scotians), where I design and manage initiatives that support African Nova Scotians in pursuing careers in health professions. Through mentorship, advising, research, and policy development, I collaborate with stakeholders to remove barriers and create pathways for success. In addition, my roles at Dalhousie University’s Department of Psychiatry, IWK Adolescent Intensive Services, and Nova Scotia Health Authority have equipped me with expertise in policy development, research coordination, stakeholder engagement, and mental health advocacy. I have conducted environmental scans, co-authored research, and played a key role in fostering inclusive workplace policies.
