About Mariam Youssef

Architect, with more than 20 years of experience in the design, supervision, and execution of successful projects, I have been a member of leading consultancy and contracting firms in the Middle East. I am currently Head of the Conservation & Restoration sector for historic and heritage buildings at Rowad for Modern Engineering.In 2009, I started my career in the Conservation, Restoration, and Rehabilitation of historic and heritage buildings, from Mamluk and Ottoman mosques to European palaces.With the extraordinary diversity of Egyptian heritage, I have a wealth of experience in dealing with complex challenges and finding solutions for restoration and rehabilitation.Therefore, I completed my master’s degree in Cultural Heritage Management, at Sorbonne, Paris1- in 2020. I chose to discuss adaptive reuse as a strategy for the conservation of historic buildings in Egypt and how it can help upgrade the socio-economic and environmental status of surrounding communities. In late 2022, I had the honor of leading a specialized group to transport and restore the pillars of the Holy Kaaba for display at the Jeddah Biennial of Islamic Arts.In 2023, I was honored to work and cooperate with the Saudi Ministry of Culture (MOC) and completed the Tariq Abdul Hakim Museum in historic Jeddah.At the beginning of this year 2024, I was approved by the Egyptian Syndicate of Engineers as a consultant specializing in the restoration and maintenance of historic and heritage buildings.
