About Marian Schalk

I have been a medical transcriptionist since 1981. I started out in Family Practice with no training through Kelly Girl. From there I was in computer operating until 1985 when I started to work in the Pathology Department at Erlanger Medical Center, Chattanooga, TN. I moved to the Memorial Hospital Pathology Department in 1988, then to Allied Clinical Laboratories, Chattanooga, TN, to August 1990. I was mobilized for Operation Desert Storm in August 1990 until July 1991. From there I went back to work at Allied until 1993 when I went back to Pathology at Erlanger. I worked at Erlanger until August At Erlanger I was a transcripionist, then Team Leader for the Pathology Office; together with the other supervisors in the lab we restructured the whole laboratory through continuous quality improvement. My job was eliminated and I went back to being a transcriber, and then a friend retired who worked for the Chief of Pathology, and I applied for her job and worked as the Executive Assistant to the Chief of the Pathology Department at Erlanger until August when the insurance became too expensive. I moved back to Memorial Pathology and worked there until 2009 when I applied for a job at Softscript and I have been there ever since, this is my dream job, working from home. I also do subcontractor work on the side for a hospital in Tampa, Florida, and also for Erlanger Medical Center. I have many specialties in pediatric transcription, GI, pulmonology, neurology, cardiology, family practice, rheumatology and psychiatry.
