About Maribeth Powers

Currently, I am a Physical Education, health, and technology teacher at The Greek American Institute in Bronx, NY. I recently graduated my second masters degree at Manhattanville College in Purchase, NY, where I studied Physical Education and Health. From 2019 to 2021, while completing this degree, I have held a job as teaching assistant at an early childhood education center called Kindercare. Since 2017, I have also held a position of Head Volleyball Coach at Brewster High School. Previously, I held a position of Assistant Volleyball Coach at Mount St. Mary College, in Newburgh, NY. While coaching at MSMC, I decided to get my first master’s degree in Recreational Sport Coaching and Sport Sciences, to help better myself as a coach and mentor. During those years I learned many things about athletics, exercise science, and sport pedagogy. It especially proved to be useful when I worked as a permanent substitute PE teacher in the Arlington School District in Poughkeepsie, NY, during the Spring of 2019. I also have worked at many volleyball clubs over the years, offering my services as a coach in any way I could. I also have been volunteering at Back Yard Sports+ in White Plains, which has given me the opportunity to work with children with disabilities, specifically autism, and help them gain confidence in themselves through sports. On top of this, I have recently been inducted into the Kappa Delta Pi Honor Society at Manhattanville for my high academic achievements. I also have office experience as the Director of Client Services for the Hudson Valley Renegades, a minor league baseball team in Dutchess, NY. In this role, I organize events and promotions for both the baseball season and postseason. I also helped to interview and hire our interns and was responsible to help them learn and become team players and to realize their full potential. I also was responsible for all social media accounts and oversaw all financial budgets within my organization. As a mentor, I always want what is best for my players and students; academically and athletically. If there is one thing I have learned about teaching in these last few years of continuing my education and coaching, it is this; a great teacher is someone who wants to change the world, and they accomplish this by wanting the absolute best for their students. They are someone who is passionate about the physical, mental, and emotional growth and development of kids, and that is what I aspire to do.
