About Marien de Jonge
Marien de Jonge has a PhD from the University of Amsterdam, and is currently professor of infection and immunity and head of the Laboratory of Medical Immunology of the Radboud University Medical Center in Nijmegen. Since 2017 he is chairman of the Royal Netherlands Society for Microbiology. He has more than 20 years of experience in both academic research and industrial R&D in the Netherlands and abroad. Marien de Jonge’s main research interest is focused on understanding host-pathogen interactions and mucosal immune responses, aiming at the improvement of prevention, diagnosis and treatment of respiratory tract infections. His group studies mucosal immune responses and correlates of protection against respiratory pathogens, exploring novel strategies for antigen-adjuvant delivery for the development of intranasal and intradermal vaccines. Furthermore, the group investigates innovative diagnostic strategies to distinguish viral from bacterial infections and to sensitively detect pathogens in exhaled air. His mission is also to contribute to a sustainable world and founded in 2019 Microfuel Innovations B.V, a biotechnology start-up company developing innovative lipid-based biofuels and proteins for food- and feed applications derived from microbial fermentation. Microfuel Innovations B.V. joined GAFT - Green Aviation Fuel Technology – B.V. a company that is developing the first end-to-end solution to renewable jet fuel out of CO2 without using fossil fuels or food crops.
