About Marilyn Couch

Ms. Marilyn Couch works at the Human Sciences Research Council (HSRC). She successfully completed her Master's degree in Social Science with a focus on Health Research Ethics at the University of KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa through collaboration with the South African Research Ethics Training Initiative (SARETI). Ms. Couch has diverse educational qualifications including a Bachelor of Commerce in Law, an Honours degree in Human Resource Management, and a Postgraduate Diploma in Project Management which enables her to leverage various skills when performing tasks. She currently contributes to multiple projects at the HSRC and is recognised for her expertise in Health Research Ethics. She recently received an award as an Emerging Researcher for presenting one of their ongoing projects. She serves on both the Research Ethics Committees (REC/IRB/ERB) at the HSRC and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) where she finds fulfillment by making significant contributions towards maintaining ethical standards within global humanitarian initiatives. Ms. Couch has an impressive scholarly output, including several peer-reviewed journal articles and co-authorship of one book. She continues to expand her publication portfolio through active engagement in research projects. Her interests lie primarily within ethical and legal matters relating to public health, planning future doctoral studies focusing on public health topics while also aiming to expand her research work across other relevant subjects within this field.
