About Marilynn Booth

I believe in lifelong learning for individuals, businesses and communities. Students are always at the heart of the work that I do – whether that is ensuring the delivery of high quality educational programs or generating widespread public, government, and corporate support for lifelong learning and the people it serves. I am an academic entrepreneur. I strive to foster transformation in the organizations I work with and I have done so throughout my career. Under my stewardship as the Dean, the University of Toronto School of Continuing Studies has earned a global reputation as an innovative leader in the advancement of lifelong learning. The success of our commitment to learners first is shown by the numbers – over the last ten years, student enrolment has more than doubled. Prior to joining the University of Toronto, I was the Dean of Ryerson University’s Chang School of Continuing Education for 12 years. I believe that lifelong learning that is critical to economic prosperity and social well-being - in our city, across Canada and around the globe. I have seen this in action as a consultant on continuing education projects around the world and have participated in many international projects including ones in Hong Kong, China, the Republic of Georgia, Bolivia, the United Arab Emirates, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, and Jamaica. Volunteerism is a fundamental part of who I am. I served as the Chair of Lakefield College School—the first woman to do so in the school’s 125-year history. I have also served as president of the Canadian Association for University Continuing Education, president of the Ontario Council of University Lifelong Learning, and on the board of University Professional & Continuing Education Association.
