About Mario Dangelo
I was born in Trapani, Sicily, in 1975. In 1994 I moved to Rome where I studied Anthropology at the Faculty of Sociology at the University of Rome “La Sapienza”. In I studied photojournalism with R. Fava (Ansa - leading news agency in Italy and among the leaders in the world) in Rome and in 2004 with P. Pellegrin (Magnum) at the TPW. In 2008 I attended the School of Visual Ethnography at the Istituto Superiore di Fotografia e Comunicazione Integrata in Rome. Since I work as a set photographer with the Teatro Stabile in Florence, the Stabile in Bolzano, with the Teatro di Roma, The International Academy of Butoh in Palermo and FIND Foundation in Rome. Among the others, I collaborated with the directors Bellocchio, Binasco, Paravidino, Benvenuti, Collovà and the choreographers Shantala Shivalingappa and Sayoko Onishi, being published by the major national newspapers and magazines in the field. I worked at the short film “Articolo 28” of the RAI feature film “All Human Rights for All” produced under the patronage of the UN, directing the photography and the editing. In my artistic research I investigate anthropological, social, environment and identity-related topics through photography and video. When I go sailing, I take care of the storeroom and commit myself to staring at the sea. Prizes 2011 - Finalist at the Arte Rugabella Prize. 2004 - Aldo Nascimben Photography Prize. 2004 - Orvieto Professional Photography Awards Reportage Category, one Orvieto Fotografia Award and three Honorable Mentions. 2004 - Best black-and-white Reportage at Premio di Fotografia Mediterraneo Art. 2004 - Honorable Mention at Premio Hermatena. 2003 - Bronze Award at TDK Click. Specialties: Visual artist, I investigate anthropological, social, environment and identity-related topics through photography, video and new technologies. Performing arts photographer, especially for theatre and dance, I produce also musical and theatre backstages and documentary films.
