About Marisa Laing

I'm proud of what I've accomplished so far in my career, but mostly, I'm proud to be a nurse. Over the past twenty years, I've served as a Registered Nurse and ultimately a Clinical Nurse Manager (charge nurse) in the Emergency Department at Truman Medical Center. I loved my time at Truman and truly loved our patients. Once I received my Masters in Nursing and became a Nurse Practitioner, I accepted a role as a member of the trauma team at the University of Kansas Health System. The trauma service at UKHS is unique in that it is the only service in the hospital that is run by mid-level providers (APP). Our team manages a full floor service of patients from admission to discharge, as well as in a team-run outpatient clinic. After earning my Doctors of Nursing Practice, I accepted a role as the APP Trauma Surgical Coordinator on the trauma service at UKHS. In this role, I continue to clinically practice as well as lead our team of APPs in the trauma service. I have recently begun graduate teaching - a true passion of mine - and am happy to serve as Adjunct Faculty at the Rockhurst University-Saint Luke's College of Nursing and Health Sciences, where I was named Adjunct Faculty of the Year in 2024.
