Background
About Marisa McPeck-Stringham
I am passionate about helping others, that is why I went into the social work field. I earned my Masters of Social Work degree in 2020. I am a licensed clinical social worker (LCSW) licensed by the state of Utah. I am currently a mental health therapist in private practice therapy working with children, adolescents, individuals, couples, and groups. I am passionate about improving mental health care to improve people's quality of life. I consider myself an eclectic therapist, most often using the modalities of CBT, TF-CBT, client centered, and motivational interviewing. After obtaining my CSW license I worked as a therapist at Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault crisis center and was trained in trauma informed care. I also worked PRN as a hospital social worker doing safe discharge planning with patients during the height of the covid pandemic. The previous six years I spent working in infant abuse prevention. The work stretched me professionally in the fields of research, understanding medical literature, and connecting with community resources. I presented at the Sixteenth International Conference on Shaken Baby Syndrome/Abusive Head Trauma in Orlando, Florida in 2018, about finding resources in the aftermath of abuse for families and caregivers of victims. I have volunteered as a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) with the Utah Courts and foster children in Northern Utah since 2013. The work has both expanded and broken my heart. I am very passionate about the CASA program and encourage anyone who is interested in volunteering with this wonderful organization to please do so! The impact you can have for the good on these children will last a lifetime. I found great professional joy in working with expectant parents and prospective adoptive parents for six years. I am still in contact with many of my former clients. Connecting with families to resources who have experienced the devastating impacts of abuse was the most important thing I did at the NCSBS.
