About Marissa Bennett

My name is Marissa Bennett! I entered social work for the opportunity to affect change at many levels. I believe people should not have to face barriers due to circumstances out of their control. I would like to work towards a more socially just society where people can more easily access the resources they need to be healthy and successful. I bring an ever-growing understanding of anti-oppressive, strengths-based, trauma-informed, and client-centered approaches to the clients, interdisciplinary teams, or communities I work with. Additionally, I have demonstrated proficiency with case management activities including assessment, advocacy, and referral services and I am knowledgeable in cultural awareness practices as well as some ways of Indigenous knowing and healing. As a passionate ambassador of the social work profession, I have received two awards for excellence in student leadership during my time as the Faculty of Social Work Representative for the Students’ Union at the University of Calgary. During my studies, I also completed extensive education and an extra 300 hours of practicum in Community Rehabilitation and Disability Studies. As well, I was an active member in the University of Calgary Debate Society and volunteered for Campus Community Kitchen for which my team and I received an award for leadership in sustainability. With six years’ experience working with diverse clients including Indigenous populations, individuals experiencing homelessness or involvement with the criminal justice system, people experiencing mental health and addiction issues, as well as children, youth, and adults with disabilities, I am confident in my ability to work well with a wide variety of people.
