Background

About Marit van der Heijden

As a director and creative with 5+ years experience, I love creating films from beginning to end. I create documentary, fiction and music videos with atmospheric visuals or informative content depending on each unique story’s needs. My strength is my ability to listen, to find the core of each narrative and translate it to the right creative concept. I am always keen to explore new topics and guide the process from start to finish. My recent focus has been to write and direct short international documentaries. I've been working as a freelance film director and creative since graduating with Honours from the University of the Arts Utrecht. I also hold a Master’s Degree in Arts & Society from the Utrecht University, including electives from the MA Postcolonial & Gender studies and a degree from the ELTE University in Budapest. I always apply my research skills to find the right narrative and tell it in the most impactful way. And I love helping sustainable brands,(NGO) organizations and charities to tell their stories. I have worked for Makmende Media, WeTransfer, the International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam, Verzió Human Rights Documentary Film Festival, GoodHabitz, and many more. My clients include: The Cartier Women's Initiative (CWI), The Dutch Good Growth Fund (DGGF), International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), Rijksdienst voor Ondernemend Nederland (RVO), the Fund Against Child Labour (FBK), Wageningen University and Research (WUR), The Broker (Include), the International Foundation Groenlinks (IFG) and more. I am based in Amsterdam, and available to work abroad. I have worked in London, Budapest, Lisbon and Berlin and would love to get in touch if you're looking for an (international) film director. info@maritvanderheijden.com
