About Mariya Silva

Hello! My name is Mariya. I am a 2008 graduate of Mayfield High School in Mayfield, OH. After High School, I attended John Carroll University in University Heights, OH from 2008-2012 and graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology with a minor in Business. In 2013, I graduated with my Master’s in Business Administration from John Carroll University. During college, I interned at Olympic Steel in Bedford Heights, OH for 2 years and was promoted to a full time Human Resources Specialist upon graduation. In 2013, I also received my PHR (Professional in Human Resources) certification. In 2014, I took a break from Human Resources to raise my three children and pursued Real Estate with Howard Hanna on a part time basis. During my time as a Stay at Home Mother, I was heavily involved in volunteering with MOMS Club of Medina County (Vice President, Board Member) and the Medina Early Childhood PTA. After battling and overcoming alcohol addiction, I changed my professional and personal focus to the nonprofit sector. I am currently a Recovery Support Specialist at Hope Recovery Community in Medina, OH where I support those struggling with Substance Use Disorder while performing Administrative, Marketing, Outreach and Human Resource duties. I am a member of the SCRC (Summit County Reentry Coalition) where I volunteer to assist in reducing recidivism in Medina and surrounding counties. I volunteer at Ohio Correctional Facilities to provide a variety of resources to inmates. My goal is to start a Citizen Circle in Medina in 2024. My passion is Recovery, Reentry and Mental Health (although, I will always be passionate about Human Resources!). I spend my free time with my children, our extremely energetic Golden Retriever, and our ferocious Bearded Dragon. I also enjoy helping with local AA meetings and programs, being an active member of church, and exploring our wonderful town of Medina, OH.
