Background
About Marjorie Galas
I embody the term "wears many hats." I enjoy being a multi-tasker and am happiest when I'm utilizing my skills to problem solve and achieve creative solutions. Currently, I am the Sr. Director, Members & Education at Association of Film Commissioners International (AFCI). I'm directly involved in implementing an educational program for the film commission members along with many other tasks. I've enjoyed having an active role in redeveloping the AFCI University and other valuable initiatives that enable members and the production community at large to excel in their roles. As Editor for Variety 411, I was responsible for the development, implementation and execution of content on all Variety 411 entities. I write and edit all articles in the Variety 411 eNewsletter, edit the Variety 411 printed directories and manage all Variety 411 marketing needs, from writing press releases to securing barters. A sample of my past achievements at Variety 411 include:* Doubled newsletter subscriptions from to subscribers within my first three months of employment.* Produced a video series that averaged 600 weekly clicks and increased overall site visitation.* Produced live panels at major film festivals and events including the Sundance Film Festival, Cannes Film Festival, SXSW and TIFF. Each panel was taped and presented as a web event.* Saved annually by revising content, font type and page count in the printing of the Variety 411 directories. My career began in Boston where I worked for Hachette Book Group as a researcher, department trainer and the Co-Chair of the company's Diversity Awareness Committee. I was a staff member at Boston Neighborhood Network where I trained community producers and organize their production needs. I was an Assistant Stage Manager/Prop Master for theater companies including the Sugan Theater and Boston Conservatory. A BFA in studio art recipient, I remain a practicing artist.
