Associate Professor of Africana Studies Mark Allan Davis, whose area of research is Black performance studies/dramatic lit/theatre/history/practice and activism, recently co-moderated a panel for the California Faculty Association Council on Racial & Social Justice 2021 Equity Week with Andrea Moore of Sacramento State University. The event featured speaker Shaun Harper, executive director of University of Southern California’s Race & Equity Center, who presented on “Equity Interrupted in the University” along with Davis. Davis has also been actively involved in the implementation of Assembly Bill No. 1460, which addresses the CSU’s ethnic studies curriculum requirements. He is also the SF State CFA chapter’s executive board rep for the Council on Racial and Social Justice and was recently elected as member at large to the CSU Council on Ethnic Studies’ Black Caucus’ Constitution Sub-Committee. Additionally, the Africana Studies Department recently added a new oral communications course, “AFRS 120: Communicating Realness: Minding the Gap,” written by Davis. The course is slated to be offered in the 2021-2022 academic year. He has active courses in both the College of Liberal & Creative Arts and in the College of Ethnic Studies.
