About Mark Avallone

My career at SNL Financial started 10 years ago as a software developer, one of 300 employees. My role expanded through consistent project delivery and technology thought leadership. SNL Financial was purchased last year, at which point I was Director of the software engineering department, managing over 130 engineers in a company that had grown to With our integration into the S&P Global Market Intelligence division I am tasked with defining our technology strategy as a Senior Director in the Architecture group. Our strategy underpins a sweeping integration of technology. My team at SNL delivered a service-oriented product platform, including a responsive UX. This platform will serve as the product platform of the unified Market Intelligence division. I am focused on the monetization of our deep set of financial and asset-level data through this product platform and its data APIs. There is another integration afoot centering on culture. SNL adopted the scrum flavor of agile years ago and with our acquisition this methodology is being introduced to the full division. As a technology leader I worked with my peers to refine our agile process. My team also established a technology governance framework, providing domain oversight in a lean manner. Agile was a perfect fit for SNL where transparency was a core value. Transparency is necessary in order to administrate the pay-for-performance management system. As the department director I managed the semi-annual performance review process, which in my experience drove strong, consistent results and alignment as a team. This performance management system, the company prioritization process, the alignment of senior leadership across technology and business divisions, the adoption of agile, and centralized data management came together in my career at SNL. I am confident in the success that these forces together will deliver for an organization. I am an agent for their adoption in my role at S&P.
