About Mark Barrett

I am an ex Warrant Officer in the British Army, leaving the Services in 2008. I am currently a Health & Safety Manager in the Rail industry, managing a Compliance Team covering the whole of the UK. I have extensive experience involving operations, Projects, setting strategies in relation to delivering behavioural safety programmes, site safety tours, leading audits, leadership, accident investigations including root and immediate cause analysis, management and training. Along with excellent knowledge of the rail supply chain and the principal contractors. I am passionate about health, safety and wellbeing, not only to protect personnel, but also the major effect it can have on a business. I have a strong, pro-active attitude and thrive on challenges, looking at continually improving, creating and modifying systems, along with motivating and influencing staff to establish and maintain a better safety culture. I have recently qualified as a Mental health First Aid Instructor and can deliver the 2-day Mental Health First Aid Course and the Awareness Course. I also chair Health and Safety meetings (at all levels) and produce a monthly Newsletter that is distributed to our workers and senior clients, as well as playing an active part in client led meetings and safety groups. I excel at organising people and teams proactively, working to tight schedules, in a professional and friendly manner. Due to the nature of my previous appointments, I can work under pressure and prioritise my workload accordingly. I have successfully taken the lead on all matters relating to Covid-19, including task risk assessments and return to work risk assessments. Regular meetings are held via MS Teams with daily updates being sent to over 400 of our workers across the UK. I feel I can provide expert advice and best practice, as I am also registered as a NEBOSH NGC/IGC tutor and a registered IOSH tutor, having trained numerous Health & Safety courses, including Managing Safely and other industry led courses. Keeping myself regularly updated with any changes to regulations and compliance. A sample of my qualifications include Units A, B & and C of the NEBOSH Diploma, NEBOSH General Certificate in Occupational Safety & Health and NEBOSH Fire Safety & Risk Management.
