About Mark Boneschanscher
People describe me as a socially capable nerd. I am passionate about science in general, but chemistry and physics have my heart in particular. During my PhD research, I reveled in materials science and in studying the nitty-gritty details of nanotechnology. In my time at FOM and NWO I learned how to navigate the world of research funding, strategy, and policy. I especially enjoyed working at the interface between science and politics, lobbying for more investments in research and innovation through Sector Plans and large programs like the Dutch Science Agenda or National Growth Fund. In 2019 I was asked to set up the energy research institute EIRES at TU/e, working in parallel as the general secretary of NERA. It was great to build up something from scratch and I am very proud of the institute and community that has grown over the past years. In 2024 I got closer involved in the management of the CE & C department, returning to my original discipline. This resulted later in the appointment as dean.
