About Mark Brookes

Mark has more than 30 years of legal expertise in Australia and England, with a specialisation in insurance, professional liability, directors’ and officers’ liability, management liability, employment liability, claims involving fraud and contractual disputes. He has a particular intertest in mediation and enjoys resolving complex, multi-party and high value disputes including class actions. As a Nationally Accredited Mediator, Mark specialises in helping businesses resolve commercial disputes to avoid the cost and risk of trials. Having first been accredited as a mediator in 2003 and re-certified in 2024, he is a skilled negotiator with a passion for resolving claims and achieving commercial outcomes as quickly and cost effectively as possible. As a Partner at Carter Newell, Mark acts as both coverage and defence counsel for national and international insurers and their insureds. He has extensive experience in both litigation and alternative methods of dispute resolution and regularly appears as the advocate at mediations. Mark has been recognised by Doyle's Guide and The Best Lawyers in Australia, including in the fields of Alternative Dispute Resolution, Insurance Law and Professional Malpractice Litigation and was Lawyer of the Year in 2021 and 2023 for professional malpractice litigation and legal malpractice litigation in Brisbane, respectively.
