About Mark Brophy

With over 13 years at the European Space Agency, I’ve had the privilege of working at the intersection of space exploration, communication, and coordination. As the Ramses/Hera Outreach and Documentation Service Manager, I lead the strategic planning and execution of multimedia and outreach activities for two of ESA’s flagship planetary defence missions. I coordinate cross-functional teams, manage external media relations, and ensure that all mission-related content—whether video, print, digital, or immersive—is accurate, impactful, and aligned with ESA’s communication goals. From launch webcasts and documentary productions to VR projects and AI-powered mission apps, I oversee initiatives that help make complex space missions accessible and inspiring to a broad audience. A career milestone was leading the organisation of Hera’s high-profile launch event at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Cape Canaveral—an international effort involving multiple agencies, media partners, and mission stakeholders. Following Hera’s launch, I have assumed the same responsibilities for the Ramses mission, building on successful practices and adapting them to a new, ambitious phase in ESA’s planetary defence programme. Driven by a lifelong passion for space exploration, I’m inspired by ESA’s collaborative ethos and mission to push the boundaries of scientific discovery. I remain committed to producing meaningful outreach that connects people to the missions shaping our understanding of the universe.
